Datadog is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, implement, and operate foundational distributed systems platforms that power the company's observability and monitoring infrastructure. You will work on data pipelines that ingest, store, analyze, and query billions of events per second in real-time from customers globally. The role focuses on building fault-tolerant, horizontally scalable solutions optimized for durability, high availability, low latency, and internet-scale operations in multi-tenant environments.
Key responsibilities include architecting and building distributed systems components using languages such as Go, Java, Rust, or C++; leveraging open-source technologies like Kafka, Redis, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch; owning meaningful portions of production services; and contributing to the company's technical direction. You will work on problems requiring deep expertise in high-durability systems, low-latency optimization, and performance-critical infrastructure.
You bring 6+ years of backend software engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in systems programming and distributed systems design. You hold a BS, MS, or PhD in a scientific field or equivalent professional experience. You have strong proficiency in at least one systems programming language and experience solving complex problems around durability, latency, and scalability. You are comfortable diving into low-level implementation details when needed and prioritize simple, performant designs. You are also expected to demonstrate proficiency with AI coding tools and the ability to validate and refine AI-generated code.
