Canva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Developer Experience (DevX) group, specifically the Developer Environment team. This role owns critical infrastructure that directly impacts every engineer at Canva, with a focus on making software development faster, easier, and more enjoyable.
You will work on high-leverage projects across three potential domains:
**Automation Pipeline**: Build and maintain CI/CD systems, test infrastructure, release automation, and deployment safety mechanisms.
**Developer Workflows**: Optimise developer experience across the software development lifecycle, including developer environments (local and remote), build system performance, IDE integrations, and AI-assisted development tooling.
**Build & Collaboration**: Maintain source control systems, monorepo tooling, build systems (Bazel), code review infrastructure, and developer environments.
Your work will focus on eliminating systemic friction—reducing build times, automating release processes, and building self-service platforms that empower teams to move faster independently. The Developer Environment team specifically owns the platforms powering how every engineer at Canva develops, from cloud dev environments to IDE tooling and AI-enabled workflows, touching thousands of engineers daily.

**Requirements:**
- Strong background in Platform Engineering with solid programming experience in Python and Go (Java or TypeScript a plus)
- Proven track record building and operating systems at scale
- Experience supporting large engineering organizations (1000+ engineers)
- Strong experience with AWS or GCP (company uses AWS)
- Thorough Kubernetes experience in production environments
- Experience building and maintaining complex CI/CD pipelines at scale (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Buildkite, etc.)
- Experience with Bazel, Gradle, or similar monorepo build tools (Bazel highly valued)
- Implemented comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting (observability)
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation)
**Highly Valued (Nice to Have):**
- Experience with release automation and deployment safety mechanisms
- Background in developer tooling
- Contributions to open source infrastructure or developer tools
- Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into developer workflows
- Prior work on build performance optimisation or test infrastructure at scale
