Quantum Systems, a rapidly scaling aerospace/defense company specializing in unmanned aerial systems (UAS), is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Software Factory team within the Core Domain. The company has grown from 300 to over 1,700 employees and needs to evolve its engineering practices accordingly.
In this role, you will drive developer velocity and system quality across the entire organization by designing and championing state-of-the-art development tooling and CI/CD infrastructure. You'll mentor software teams toward modern engineering practices such as monorepos, automated testing, and trunk-based development. Your mission is to eliminate friction in development workflows, understand team pain points, and build pragmatic roadmaps for improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Mentoring teams on modern engineering practices and cultural transformation
- Optimizing large-scale build and CI/CD environments for speed and reliability
- Defining engineering standards (Definition of Done, linting) and measuring developer experience using metrics like DORA
- Collaborating with embedded and infrastructure teams on transitioning to a managed, image-based Base OS for high-performance compute targets
- Cultivating a growth mindset and blameless learning culture
Required qualifications:
- Strong experience managing, scaling, or architecting build systems for large, polyglot codebases
- Deep practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and developer enablement tools at scale
- Solid Linux fundamentals (systems, networking, deployment automation)
- Experience defining and rolling out engineering standards with a data-driven approach to developer experience
- High emotional intelligence and exceptional communication skills for driving organizational change
- Strong software engineering background to earn technical credibility
Preferred skills include Bazel expertise, experience with image-based provisioning (Yocto, Nix/NixOS, systemd-mkosi, Nvidia Jetpack), and familiarity with cloud-native systems and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
