Heidi Health is building AI-powered clinical tools that reduce administrative burden on healthcare providers. The company has achieved significant traction—supporting 2.5 million patient sessions weekly across 190+ countries—and is now expanding its desktop product suite.
As a Senior Software Engineer in Desktop Applications, you will lead the design and development of Heidi's cross-platform desktop products (macOS, Windows, Linux). You'll own the full stack: architecting Rust-based system components for real-time audio capture and transcription, building performant interfaces between Rust backends and Next.js frontends, and ensuring reliability across operating systems and geographies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading development of cross-platform desktop applications using Tauri, Rust, and Next.js
- Owning end-to-end desktop experience from system architecture through native integrations, frontend implementation, and long-term maintainability
- Designing high-performance Rust components for real-time audio, transcription pipelines, local state management, and secure system interactions
- Building reliable interfaces between Rust backends and web frontends with focus on safety and correctness
- Improving core experiences: real-time transcription, AI-assisted note generation, offline/online sync, healthcare system integrations
- Designing and implementing E2E and integration testing strategies for desktop apps
- Leveraging AI-assisted development workflows to accelerate design, implementation, and debugging
- Advocating for engineering excellence, performance, reliability, and accessibility
- Collaborating across product, design, ML, and backend teams
You'll need 5+ years of professional software engineering with clear ownership of complex systems. Strong systems-level programming experience (Rust preferred; C++/Go acceptable) is essential, including performance optimization, memory management, and concurrency. Hands-on desktop application experience (Tauri, Electron, or native) with understanding of OS-level concerns (file systems, permissions, packaging, updates) is required. Modern frontend skills (React/Next.js) and comfort working across the frontend-backend boundary are expected. You should be comfortable owning ambiguous, high-impact technical problems with autonomy, have strong product intuition for professional tools in high-stakes environments, and demonstrate ability to use AI thoughtfully as a development force multiplier.
