Applied Intuition is a $15B Series A company building digital infrastructure for physical AI across automotive, defense, trucking, construction, mining, and agriculture. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Defense Simulation team, you will lead the design and development of integrated live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) simulation solutions for testing and training multi-agent autonomy software used by the U.S. military and its allies.
You will own the full lifecycle of simulation architecture—designing LVC integrations, creating complex simulation scenarios, writing interface code, conducting code reviews, and solving integration challenges. Your responsibilities include translating cross-functional requirements into robust technical solutions, mentoring junior engineers, and driving continuous innovation in testing, debugging, and CI/CD pipelines.
Key technical work involves developing performant C++ (2017+) and Python (3.10+) code for adapters and translators; designing scalable, secure LVC architectures; and integrating with defense modeling & simulation tools (AFSIM, NGTS, flight simulators). You'll work with simulation interoperability standards (DIS, HLA, DSEEP), communication protocols (DDS, ZeroMQ, Kafka, Redis, protobuf), and containerized environments (Docker, Linux, git, GitLab).
The role requires 3+ years of hands-on modern C++ development, experience with defense M&S tools and interoperability standards, and proficiency in Linux-based development environments. A Master's degree in modeling & simulation, computer science, or software engineering is required. You must be a U.S. Citizen eligible for a Secret security clearance. Travel to company offices and customer sites (~25%) is expected.
Nice-to-have qualifications include a PhD, 7+ years of multi-language software development, experience with government interoperability architectures (OMS/UCI), model-based systems engineering, hardware-in-the-loop testing, high-performance computing, and flight test readiness processes.
