Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, a platform enabling organizations in physical operations (agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, manufacturing) to harness IoT data for actionable insights. The Data Platform team owns and develops the core analytical infrastructure across Samsara, building and maintaining systems that power the data lake, distributed compute platform, and data movement from production stores into the lakehouse. This Senior Software Engineer role is a specialized infrastructure position focused on designing, building, and operating reliable, scalable, and secure systems for ingesting, processing, cataloging, and accessing petabytes of data.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and operate high-scale data ingestion and replication systems from production data stores (RDS, DynamoDB, internal APIs, event-driven systems) into the data lakehouse
- Build and maintain reliable, scalable data platform infrastructure handling petabytes across analytics, AI, product, and operational use cases
- Improve reliability, observability, scalability, security, and developer experience of Spark and Databricks-based data processing
- Develop internal libraries, APIs, frameworks, and tooling in Go and Python for safe and efficient data movement, processing, discovery, and access
- Work on foundational technologies including Delta Lake on S3, data catalogs, metadata services, orchestration systems, and platform automation
- Collaborate with infrastructure, product engineering, data science, analytics, security, and data engineering teams
This is explicitly not an analytics or business data engineering role. The ideal candidate has deep experience building and operating production data platforms, distributed systems, or large-scale ingestion infrastructure—not primarily SQL modeling, BI dashboards, ETL tools, or business-facing data marts. The role is remote for US-based candidates; relocation assistance is not provided.
