Salary: USD 147,000 - 202,000 / annual
Okta is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Data Platform team, which is responsible for foundational data services, systems, and products that power streaming analytics, interactive reporting, data/ML infrastructure, and product telemetry across the organization.
In this role, you will design, build, and deploy high-performance, scalable data platform components that support Okta's mission to secure every identity. You'll work with engineers across the organization to build infrastructure that enables the company to scale for years to come. The analytics stack leverages modern technologies including Kinesis, Flink, Elasticsearch, and Snowflake. This is a high-impact position with significant influence over the direction and implementation of data and machine learning solutions that improve end-user security.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and own data-intensive, high-performance, scalable platform components
- Collaborate with engineering teams, architects, and cross-functional partners on project development, design, and implementation
- Conduct and participate in design reviews, code reviews, performance analysis, and tuning
- Coach and mentor engineers to help scale the engineering organization
- Debug production issues across services and multiple stack levels

REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of software development experience
- Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, TypeScript, Ruby, GoLang, or Python preferred) with comfort in multiple languages
- Experience with at least one database technology: MySQL, Redis, or PostgreSQL
- Demonstrable knowledge of computer science fundamentals with strong API design skills
- Comfortable working on geographically distributed teams; brings ownership, accountability, attention to detail, and customer focus
- Track record of delivering work incrementally and iterating on solutions
- Comfortable with React or similar front-end UI stacks, or willing to learn
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with cloud-based distributed computing: Kinesis, Kafka, Flink, Spark, Beam, Snowflake, Hadoop
- Background in security, encryption, identity management, or authentication infrastructure
- Experience leveraging major public cloud providers for mission-critical, high-volume services
- Hands-on data integration development for large-scale (petabyte) environments with batch and online systems
- Contributions to distributed systems or high-volume/high-criticality usage of Kafka, Hadoop, or similar
