Salary: USD 200,000 - 400,000 / annual
Decagon is a conversational AI platform enabling enterprises to deploy AI agents for customer support and operations. The Infrastructure team builds foundational systems powering the platform: networking, data, ML serving, developer tools, and real-time voice.
You'll join the Data Infrastructure focus area as a Senior Engineer, owning the design, build, and operation of data systems end-to-end. Your responsibilities include designing high-throughput data pipelines and streaming systems with strong SLOs and clear runbooks; building and operating real-time and batch ingestion infrastructure using Kafka, Flink, and Airflow; owning the analytical data layer including schema design, query performance, and cost optimization across ClickHouse, BigQuery, or similar platforms; partnering with research and product teams to architect data solutions and scale new features; tuning pipeline and query latencies through optimization, caching, and partitioning to hit tight p95/p99 targets; leading infrastructure-as-code practices with Terraform and GitOps; and participating in on-call rotations to drive down toil through automation.
You bring 5+ years of production data infrastructure experience at scale, hands-on expertise with Tier 1 data technologies (ClickHouse, Kafka, Flink, or dbt), proven track record meeting high availability and low latency targets, strong observability skills (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog), and excellent incident response discipline. You communicate clearly and can translate ambiguous data requirements into simple, reliable designs.
Bonus experience includes CDC tooling (Debezium), orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect), Spark or Dask, cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks), early-stage infrastructure roles, Kubernetes (GKE/EKS/AKS), multi-cloud exposure, and customer-managed deployments.
