Coinbase's Data Platform team builds and operates the systems that centralize all internal and third-party data, enabling teams across the company to access, process, and transform data for analytics, machine learning, and end-user experiences. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Data Engineering Platform team, you'll sit between the platform infrastructure and the thousands of analysts, data scientists, and data engineers who depend on it daily. You will own the design and delivery of blockchain network infrastructure that abstracts blockchain complexity into reliable, platform APIs. This includes leading multi-quarter initiatives such as new chain integrations, re-architecture efforts, and data migrations that improve system latency, reliability, and cost. You'll define and maintain APIs, SLOs, and observability for the systems you build, including on-call ownership responsibilities. Key responsibilities include building SDKs, self-service applications, and abstractions that enable thousands of pipelines and analyses to run without users needing to understand underlying infrastructure. You'll partner with product and platform teams to establish data contracts and ship SDKs and platform primitives that drive adoption across Coinbase. You'll develop deep technical context across multiple top blockchain protocols (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) and apply that knowledge to simplify cross-chain operations. Required experience includes 5+ years of software engineering with demonstrated ownership of production services in service-oriented architectures. You must have a proven track record designing, scaling, and maintaining distributed systems handling high-throughput, low-latency workloads. Hands-on experience with at least two of: Golang, Kafka, Redis, MongoDB, or similar infrastructure technologies is essential. Direct experience with blockchain protocols or crypto infrastructure (Ethereum, Bitcoin, L1/L2 networks) is required. You should demonstrate the ability to decompose complex systems into well-bounded microservices with clear API contracts. The role emphasizes responsible use of generative AI to maintain human oversight while delivering business-ready outputs. Coinbase is a remote-first company with quarterly in-person working sessions called "surges." The environment is intense and high-performing, designed for engineers who refuse to settle for "good enough."
