Beacon Biosignals is transforming precision medicine for the brain through at-home EEG platforms and digital diagnostics. The company serves life sciences partners in clinical development and operates a diagnostics business delivering reimbursable assessments for sleep and CNS disorders. The Datastore team sits at the heart of Beacon's platform, defining the foundational data model and serving as the centralized repository and API for brain data collected from clinical studies. This Senior Software Engineer role focuses on designing and scaling backend systems for data infrastructure, including event-driven pipelines, data modeling, and APIs that enable scientific and clinical data use. Key responsibilities include: - Partner with product managers and stakeholders to design new integrations, services, and solutions for scaling the data platform - Implement features with attention to data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability - Draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design, incorporating team input and alignment - Improve operational robustness and ease of use through documentation, tools, and dashboards - Lead design and integration of new services and components for data and event processing - Contribute to scaling the Datastore's core infrastructure - Collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs unlocking new workflows Required qualifications: - 5+ years backend development experience, including at least 2 years in data engineering, data platforms, or infrastructure for data-centric applications - Strong SQL proficiency with production PostgreSQL experience - Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, Amazon Kinesis, or equivalent) - Proficiency in a data-oriented programming language (Julia, Python, or R) - Experience with Julia is a strong plus but not required Beacon maintains robust asynchronous work practices for a first-class remote experience, with optional in-person office hubs in Boston, New York, and Paris.
