Flexport is a technology-driven freight forwarding and customs brokerage platform serving global commerce. The Customs Technology team is building systems to help businesses navigate tariffs, regulations, and geopolitical complexity in international trade—transforming a legacy, manual-heavy industry through automation and AI.
In this role, you'll work on the backend systems powering customs compliance and automation. You'll collaborate with product managers and business partners to translate complex customs regulations and logistics workflows into elegant technical solutions. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building microservices (Kotlin on Kubernetes) that model real-world customs entities, cargo movement, and regulatory requirements
- Creating integrations with government agencies and logistics partners to automate customs filing and reduce manual overhead
- Leveraging AI/LLM agents to eliminate routine work for customs brokers and surface high-value cases
- Building performant, reliable systems that ship to production dozens of times per day
- Developing domain models for freight forwarding complexity and delivering supply chain analytics
- Mentoring junior engineers and raising code quality standards across the team
You'll work in a hybrid model (2–3 days/week in Amsterdam office) with a tech stack including React/TypeScript, Kotlin, Kubernetes, GraphQL, gRPC, Postgres, Kafka, and Snowflake. The team values simple, well-tested code, rapid iteration, and a bias for action.
