Salary: USD 243,290 - 295,250 / annual

Roblox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Creator Services Translation team, which owns the localization pipeline for the platform's global gaming experiences. This team manages localization sources (text, images, audio) and the full pipeline for content detection, translation, serving, and rendering across tens of millions of daily users. In this role, you will design and build highly scalable backend systems to enable creators to deliver experiences that feel native and seamless across languages and locales. You'll work on expanding language families and locales, supporting real-time localization, enriching translation media types, and improving translation quality to industry-leading standards. Your work will touch the full stack—client, game engine, backend services, and machine learning models. Key responsibilities include: - Designing and leading implementation of highly scalable, reliable distributed backend systems - Owning product areas and projects from technical design through execution, launch, and iteration - Collaborating cross-functionally with product, design, and partner teams to maintain execution quality and pace - Gathering community feedback and responding swiftly to evolving user needs - Driving innovation in localization technology and applying emerging industry trends to practical problems The role is based in San Mateo, CA with hybrid flexibility: onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday. REQUIREMENTS: - 7+ years of experience designing and leading implementation of highly scalable, reliable distributed backend systems - Hands-on experience with microservices architecture - Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C#, C++, Go, Python, or similar - Deep understanding of C++ (preferred) - Familiarity with game engines (preferred) - Familiarity with machine learning (preferred) - Strong cross-functional collaboration and project-driving skills - Long-term mindset with focus on building systems that remain optimal years into the future
