Snowflake is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the quality and efficiency of Cortex Code, their AI-native coding agent for data engineering and analytics workflows. This is a measurement-first role focused on taking agents from research prototypes to production systems that thousands of enterprises depend on daily. You will design and refine agent behaviors for real coding and data-engineering workflows, building evaluation harnesses to diagnose failure modes from production trajectories. Your responsibilities include running experiments to optimize key metrics, driving down cost and latency without regressing quality through techniques like prompt caching and context compaction, and debugging production failures to systematically increase robustness. You'll build data pipelines that feed real-world task insights back into evals and modeling, onboard frontier models to measure their strengths and weaknesses, and partner with product and infrastructure teams to shape user-facing agent behavior and set quality standards. The role requires 6+ years of experience shipping production software including AI/LLM features, fluency in Python, TypeScript, or Go, and a measurement-first, systems-thinking mindset. You should be comfortable debugging complex, unpredictable real-world failures and have strong communication skills to make quality and cost results legible across engineering, product, and leadership. Nice-to-have qualifications include hands-on experience with agentic coding tools, prior work on eval harnesses or LLM observability, background in data engineering or analytics, and experience with large-scale datasets or production system logs. You'll be a particularly good fit if you're a power user of modern coding agents, have built and owned complex systems with substantial operational requirements, thrive in high-intensity environments with short feedback loops, and take problems to completion with a focus on production reliability.
