Salary: USD 165,000 - 226,600 / annual

Okta's Core Engineering team builds and evolves shared infrastructure and services that form the foundation for other engineering teams. The team owns common shared services including search, cache, configuration management, async job management frameworks, and email pipelines. The platform is cloud-native with redundancy, multi-tenancy, scale, resource optimization, and resiliency as first-class concerns. You will work with engineering teams to design, develop, and deliver cloud-based infrastructure projects on a modern tech stack (Redis, Docker, Terraform on AWS). You will drive evaluation, development, and rollout of new common features and frameworks. You will operate, support, and upgrade shared services and frameworks, scaling them as usage grows with Okta's business. You will conduct design and code reviews, ensuring high programming standards through unit and functional tests. You will monitor, troubleshoot, and fix services and frameworks the team owns, evaluate system performance, and resolve bottlenecks. You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and collaborate with architects, QA, product owners, security, and operations engineers. Okta operates with a weekly release cycle and emphasizes individual ownership. The team is fast, creative, and flexible, working on stimulating projects with modern technologies. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent; master's preferred - 5+ years of expansive programming experience in an object-oriented programming language, especially Java, with deep understanding of multithreading, garbage collection, and memory management - Solid technology chops in architecting, implementing, tuning, and debugging large cloud deployments in enterprise environments - Immense passion about ensuring Okta's technology stays ahead of anticipated business growth - Must be able to access federal environments and have access to protected federal data; successful candidate must submit documentation establishing U.S. Person status (U.S. Citizen, National, Lawful Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee per 22 CFR 120.15) upon hire - Requires in-person onboarding and travel to San Francisco, CA HQ office or Chicago office during first week of employment
