We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Core Experiences Team, which builds and maintains the foundational services and SDKs powering Speechify's product across all platforms.
In this role, you'll work at the intersection of product and infrastructure, designing clear, reliable APIs and simple systems that directly enhance user experience. You'll collaborate closely with product teams to scope projects, find ways to reduce scope for faster customer feedback, and navigate integration/UX tradeoffs across different platforms. You'll optimize existing functionality to ship features like faster loading and more intelligent parsing by designing efficient abstractions and improving algorithms. You'll also ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and jobs using Kotlin.
The ideal candidate brings systems thinking—understanding that optimizing a system requires end-to-end design with a focus on simplicity. You work quickly to generate ideas and options, knowing which things can ship now versus what needs time. You thrive in a high-growth startup environment with a busy, remote team, balancing engagement with focused heads-down work. You collaborate well with opinionated designers, marketers, and PMs, inspiring and negotiating effectively.
Preferred tech stack includes Kotlin Multiplatform (Java experience acceptable but role is Kotlin-focused) and prior GCP experience is a plus.
