Speechify is the leading text-to-speech platform, making the world's information accessible through audio. The company is #1 in its category and experiencing exponential growth. We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Core Experiences Team, which builds and maintains the foundational services and SDKs powering Speechify's product across all platforms.
In this role, you'll work at the intersection of product and infrastructure, collaborating closely with product teams to scope projects, reduce scope for faster customer feedback, and navigate integration/UX tradeoffs across different platforms. You'll optimize existing functionality to ship features like faster loading and more intelligent parsing by designing efficient abstractions and improving algorithms. You'll also ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and jobs using Kotlin.
You should bring systems thinking—understanding that optimizing a system requires end-to-end design with a focus on simplicity. Speed is critical: you generate ideas and options quickly, knowing what can ship now versus what needs time. You thrive in a high-growth startup environment with a busy, remote team, balancing focused heads-down work with strategic engagement. You collaborate well with opinionated designers, marketers, and product managers, inspiring and negotiating effectively.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with Kotlin Multiplatform (Java experience is acceptable but the role focuses on Kotlin Multiplatform). Prior GCP experience is a plus. You'll be part of a fast-growing environment where you can shape the company and product, supported by an entrepreneurial team that values risk, intuition, and hustle. The role offers hands-off management, the opportunity to make a big impact in a transformative industry, and the chance to build products that directly support people with learning differences like dyslexia, ADD, low vision, and autism.
