Kodiak Robotics is a leader in autonomous ground transportation, founded in 2018 and publicly listed on NASDAQ as of 2025. The company has developed an AI-powered technology stack for commercial trucking and the public sector, delivering freight daily across the southern United States using autonomous technology. Kodiak was the first to publicly announce delivering a driverless semi-truck to a customer and is also developing autonomous capabilities for the U.S. Department of Defense. We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer passionate about motion control and simulation to join our Controls team. This role combines mathematical innovation with software engineering expertise to expand the frontier in autonomy simulation. You will model linear and nonlinear vehicle dynamics to establish high fidelity between simulation results and on-road data. Kodiak operates multiple vehicle platforms across diverse operating domains, surfacing many interesting modeling and simulation challenges. Key responsibilities include: - Simulating articulated truck motion in response to steering, accelerator, and brake inputs - Modeling vehicular motion, including tractor-trailer coupling interactions - Incorporating environmental effects such as incline, road bank, rolling resistance, and wind - Characterizing non-linear effects like gear shifting and electronic stability control - Analyzing simulation fidelity by comparing simulated and real-world performance - Evaluating controller performance across multi-dimensional assessments - Building safety cases for driverless operation Required qualifications: - 4+ years of controls development experience for automotive or robotic systems - Strong C++ programming skills - Interest in theoretical and empirical vehicle modeling - Facility with mechanical physics - Enthusiasm for increasing scope and fidelity of vehicular simulation - Focus on vehicle safety Bonus experience includes simulated automotive robots, driverless autonomous vehicle development, statistical analysis and evaluation, and familiarity with automotive safety cases and processes.
