The Commercial Navigation team builds navigation experiences inside the Samsara Driver app and supporting features for fleet managers: mobile guidance on the road, session review, fuel-aware routing, and safety-focused improvements. The team has strong production foundations with significant greenfield opportunities as navigation capabilities expand for commercial fleets.
You will own ambiguous problems end to end, making practical tradeoffs across mobile, backend, and web surfaces. This is a deeply technical problem space blending real-time data, thoughtful UX, and platform-wide coordination to create seamless experiences under challenging conditions—poor connectivity, dynamic job schedules, constantly changing routes.
Key responsibilities:
- Own navigation features from design through production rollout, including post-launch quality, adoption, and customer impact
- Write maintainable, well-tested code; hold high standards in design and code review; improve observability and reliability
- Design and ship features across mobile (driver navigation), backend services (routing, optimization), and web (admin visibility)
- Clarify ambiguous requirements by learning from fleet managers and drivers; align with product on priorities, define success metrics, plan milestones, and surface risks early
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, designers, and partners in Maps and Telematics

You will contribute across multiple surfaces with judgment about what matters most for customers rather than owning a fixed layer of the stack. This role offers rare closeness to end users and opportunities to participate in customer interviews and use metrics to ensure impact.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of software engineering experience
- Proven experience shipping customer-facing software in production across multiple surfaces (mobile, web, backend services), with depth in at least one and ability to contribute effectively in others
- Comfortable using AI development tools with judgment in day-to-day engineering
Ideal:
- Experience building mobile applications, including React Native; familiarity with Swift and Kotlin for native modules and in-cab experiences
- Experience shipping and maintaining features over several years, demonstrating long-term ownership
- Domain expertise in logistics or industrial IoT, especially building mobile apps for drivers/field workers or familiarity with geospatial/mapping technologies
