Back Market is a global marketplace for refurbished devices, enabling consumers to access affordable, reliable tech while reducing environmental impact (92% less carbon than new devices). The company is undergoing a significant technical transformation from a monolithic architecture to a distributed, service-oriented platform.
The Code Foundation team provides foundational tools, libraries, and standards that enhance developer productivity and ensure consistency across application development. You will work closely with your squad and a Staff engineer, participating in bi-monthly rituals to align technical direction with the overall vision.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will operate in an agile "build it and run it" environment where engineering teams own the full lifecycle—building, launching, monitoring, and supporting their products. You'll be expected to show strong ownership, take on new challenges across the technical stack, and help modernize Back Market's platform as it transitions to microservices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating meaningful discussions around complex technical issues
- Suggesting or making improvements to existing designs and architecture for quarter-bounded projects or mission-critical areas
- Exploring technologies with sizable potential impact for the team
- Contributing actively to high-impact chaos mitigation and incident response
- Identifying and advocating for prioritization of tasks that optimize delivery
- Producing clean, consistent, well-organized code with comprehensive tests and documentation
- Providing and receiving in-depth constructive code reviews
- Demonstrating end-to-end product thinking with curiosity about multi-stack development
- Collaborating effectively across an international team (US, France, Spain, Japan)
The technical environment includes: Frontend (VueJS, TypeScript, Nuxt, Revolve design system), Backend (Python/FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Celery, Golang, Django), Data (PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, BigQuery), and Infrastructure (GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Datadog, ArgoCD, CircleCI, GitHub).
The main technical challenge involves building efficient, loosely coupled services while maintaining a scalable, consistent, and secure platform that increases engineering team productivity.
Workplace: Hybrid with 3 days/week at the Paris office (Monday mandatory). Additional flexibility includes 2 remote days weekly and 1 remote week per quarter, plus 3 flex days annually.
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer
- Strong technical abilities in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Experience with backend languages (Python, Go, or equivalent) is a bonus
- Experience configuring CI/CD pipelines (CircleCI or equivalent)
- Ability to deliver high-quality code including tests, documentation, and in-depth PR descriptions
- Capability to receive and provide in-depth constructive code reviews
- Interest in the tech stack: GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, REST APIs, Python, VueJS, Nuxt, Algolia, Datadog
- End-to-end product thinking mindset
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to navigate ambiguity across technical domains
- Fluent English (working with international team)
