Cloudflare Queues is a managed, global message queuing service built on Cloudflare's edge network. The team is part of Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI), where new and bold products are developed with the leverage of Cloudflare's massive infrastructure.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Queues team, you will design and build a distributed message queuing system that powers event-driven and asynchronous applications across Cloudflare's Developer Platform. The role spans the full software stack—from protocol design through infrastructure optimization—with ownership from inception through production release.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing features for a global-scale message queuing service
- Maintaining and improving reliability, performance, and delivery guarantees
- Optimizing message buffering, delivery behavior, and producer/consumer scalability under load
- Writing design documents to propose and communicate solutions
- Debugging and fixing user-facing bugs
- Using AI tools thoughtfully throughout the development lifecycle without compromising security or quality
You should have 4+ years of experience with distributed systems and data, strong judgment about when to rely on AI-assisted development tools versus independent validation, and a commitment to correctness and security. Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript is expected. The role values ownership, clear communication, and a willingness to mentor others. This is an AI-first position where you'll leverage modern development tools to ship faster while maintaining high quality standards.
