Robinhood is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Cloud Engineering team based in Ljubljana. This role is central to modernizing Bitstamp's platform following its integration into the Robinhood family. You will lead the technical transformation of a legacy monolith architecture into a containerized, scalable ecosystem operating at Robinhood speed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading containerization efforts of the core monolith application, making critical code adjustments to modernize deployment and scaling workflows
- Managing high-priority integration projects that align Bitstamp's backend with Robinhood's global infrastructure
- Identifying and implementing backend improvements that enhance platform performance and reduce operational toil through intelligent automation
- Taking full end-to-end ownership of complex projects from design through deployment, working independently with limited supervision
- Collaborating cross-functionally to interpret technical requirements and influence processes that enhance engineering velocity
- Participating in on-call rotation to maintain 24/7 platform reliability and solve difficult production issues
You bring 4–5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong expertise in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and modernizing legacy architectures. You have advanced knowledge of AWS services including ECS, EC2, Aurora, and DynamoDB. You are an experienced autonomous contributor who has managed entire projects, coordinating across teams to solve multi-faceted problems. You thrive on balancing stable system operations with automation initiatives, and you communicate effectively to guide colleagues and influence stakeholders outside your immediate department.
The role requires in-person attendance at the Ljubljana office at least 3 days per week and participation in an on-call rotation. Applications accepted through August 31, 2026.
