Oscar Health is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Cloud Infrastructure / SRE to join the Core Technology team. Oscar is a health insurance company built on a full-stack technology platform, founded in 2012 with a focus on member-centric service.
In this role, you will be part of the Core Technology teams responsible for architecting and maintaining Oscar's foundational platform. You'll work with a modern stack centered on AWS/GCP, Terraform, and Kubernetes, building developer-focused tooling and CI/CD infrastructure. Your mission is to provide an automated, self-service infrastructure that enables the engineering organization to move fast without sacrificing security or stability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Become the domain expert on your team's DevOps, site reliability, and cloud best practices
- Lead planning, execution, and release of complex technical projects across multiple teams
- Mentor engineers on the team and improve technology standards
- Own large or complex technology capabilities within your team's domain or spanning multiple domains
- Facilitate cross-team collaboration and identify/mitigate project risks
- Design and build resilient systems, actively reducing failure domains
- Guide development of Service-Level Objectives (SLOs) for systems you own
- Own medium to large infrastructure projects from technical design through completion
You'll report to a Staff/Senior Staff Engineer and work on infrastructure that supports the entire engineering organization.
Required qualifications:
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with increasingly impactful accomplishments
- Experience as a major contributor to cross-pod or cross-company deliverables
- Proven ability to lead technical contributions and build fault-tolerant, scalable systems
- Expertise in practical application of computer science concepts
- Track record of mentoring junior engineers
- Strong foundation in writing stable, correct, and maintainable code
Bonus qualifications include deep AWS/GCP expertise at scale, advanced Terraform/IaC experience, Kubernetes and ArgoCD proficiency, SRE discipline (SLOs, error budgets, incident management), CI/CD pipeline experience with GitHub Actions, observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana), cloud-native security and service mesh technologies, and a B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
