Alpaca is a US-headquartered global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure, serving hundreds of financial institutions across 40+ countries with institutional-grade APIs. The company is backed by $400M in funding from top-tier investors including Spark Capital, Tribe Capital, and Y Combinator, and operates a globally distributed team of 400+ members. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Clearing team, you will work on the critical post-trade infrastructure that powers Alpaca's broker-dealer operations. This is backend, systems-focused work essential to daily operations—not user-facing but foundational to the business. The Clearing team has driven Alpaca's transition to self-clearing in US equities and options, and continues building integrations and new product capabilities. Your responsibilities include: - Owning projects end-to-end from ideation through deployment, cutting through ambiguity to build what's necessary - Designing and building new systems that enable new products or unlock revenue - Refining existing systems with meaningful, tangible improvements - Working on securities finance functions and infrastructure for new product launches (e.g., Fully Paid Securities Lending) - Participating in on-call rotation to maintain system reliability - Collaborating across teams and influencing company direction You must deeply understand how traditional financial markets work, take responsibility for systems people trust with their money, and lead projects independently. You value quality thinking and practical solutions over hierarchy. You know when you don't know something and seek information rather than guessing. You're willing to let go of ideas when new information surfaces and focus on what truly matters. You want to see long-term impact and take on increasingly larger efforts.
