Hydrolix is a fast-growing cloud data platform startup seeking an experienced C++ developer to join a small, high-impact engineering team. You'll work on core infrastructure powering large-scale data ingestion, storage, and querying for customers processing billions of events daily.
In this role, you'll develop high-quality, scalable C++ software (C++23) for efficient management and processing of massive datasets. You'll tackle complex database challenges, optimize performance for stream processing and multithreaded applications using innovative indexing, advanced compression algorithms, and modern asynchronous programming. Your work will build upon large-scale, well-maintained open-source projects with bleeding-edge optimizations.
Key responsibilities include developing and optimizing low-level systems, participating in product and architecture discussions, collaborating across teams to solve technical problems, advocating for industry best practices, and providing mentorship and code review guidance to team members.
You should have extensive hands-on experience in modern C++ programming, debugging, and performance tuning of distributed and highly concurrent systems. A Computer Science degree or equivalent practical experience is required, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture. You must demonstrate the ability to comprehend and work within large, complex codebases and have experience with network/socket programming, multi-threaded programming, and distributed systems concepts (consistency, availability, scalability, fault tolerance).
Database systems experience is essential—including query optimizers, query execution engines, storage engines, and database indexing. Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in small team environments with self-motivation and independence are critical.
Bonus qualifications include experience with distributed data pipeline processors, advanced database indexing techniques (inverted, ngram, full-text, vector search), compression algorithms (dictionary/FOR/delta encoding), SIMD performance optimization, cloud storage solutions (Azure, GCP, AWS), modern OLAP databases (ClickHouse, DuckDB), modern build tools (cmake, ninja, clang-18, llvm-18), sanitizers and static analysis tooling, and experience extending and integrating codebases.
