Self Financial is a venture-backed fintech company on a mission to increase economic inclusion and financial resilience by helping people build credit and savings. The Business Systems team builds and operates the integration layer connecting core platforms (CRM, payments, internal services) to customer-facing tools. This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining Python-based REST APIs that handle hundreds of thousands of requests daily in a high-traffic, latency-sensitive environment.
You will own real production performance problems backed by data. Recent work includes deep incident investigations that traced latency issues to code-level causes and shipped fixes that measurably reduced error rates and response times. Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining Python services for CRM-to-downstream integrations, diagnosing and resolving production performance issues (blocking I/O, connection handling, caching, API latency), using async Python (asyncio) to parallelize I/O-bound work, implementing and tuning caching layers (Redis), building and maintaining CRM integrations (Salesforce), deploying and operating services in AWS (serverless, containerized), using observability/APM tooling to trace requests and validate fixes, writing clean, well-tested, maintainable code with solid architectural patterns, participating in rotating on-call/production-support, and collaborating with engineering teams, DevOps/SRE, and product stakeholders.
Required qualifications: strong professional Python experience including async programming and REST API development; solid understanding of data integration (reliable movement, syncing, reconciliation across systems, failure/retry handling, consistency); solid HTTP and API design knowledge (pagination, timeouts, rate limiting, caching) with production debugging experience; experience with key-value/caching stores (Redis preferred); experience with a major cloud provider (AWS preferred); comfort reading logs and distributed traces; strong written and verbal communication.
Nice-to-have skills include Twilio experience (Voice, Studio, Flex), Salesforce integration (SOQL, Apex, REST APIs), APM/observability platform familiarity (Dynatrace, Datadog, New Relic), SQL for debugging and data validation, API documentation tooling (OpenAPI/Swagger), and AWS experience.
