Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Blockchain Networks team within the Platform group. In this role, you will own the design and delivery of critical blockchain network infrastructure that abstracts complex blockchain operations into reliable, production-grade APIs used across Coinbase's product teams.
You will lead multi-quarter technical initiatives including new blockchain chain integrations, system re-architecture efforts, and data migrations that improve latency, reliability, and cost. Your responsibilities include defining and maintaining APIs, SLOs, and observability for the systems you build, with on-call ownership. You'll partner closely with product and platform teams to establish data contracts and ship SDKs and platform primitives that drive adoption across the organization.
Key technical focus areas include building deep context across multiple top blockchain protocols (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) and applying that knowledge to simplify cross-chain operations. You'll work with technologies like Golang, Kafka, Redis, and MongoDB to build distributed systems handling high-throughput, low-latency workloads.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of production services in service-oriented architectures. You must have a proven track record designing, scaling, and maintaining distributed systems, hands-on experience with infrastructure technologies (Golang, Kafka, Redis, MongoDB), and direct experience with blockchain protocols or crypto infrastructure. The ability to decompose complex systems into well-bounded microservices with clear API contracts is essential.
Coinbase is a remote-first company with quarterly in-person working sessions called "surges." The company emphasizes high performance, intensity, and pushing beyond perceived limits in service of its mission to increase economic freedom.
