Snowflake's Billing & Payments Platform team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own medium-to-large projects end-to-end, building the distributed systems that meter, rate, and invoice customer usage across Snowflake's cloud services. This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure, finance, and AI commercialization—you'll design federated billing systems that handle real-time usage metering across multiple clouds and regions, support evolving pricing models for Cortex AI and Snowflake Intelligence, and ensure strict accuracy, auditability, and low-latency processing.
You will own one or more billing components (metering, rating, invoicing, contracts, payments, threshold billing, fraud detection, or reporting) and serve as the go-to expert, mentoring other engineers. The role is deeply cross-functional: you'll partner daily with Product, Finance, Legal, Growth, and GTM Systems teams to translate business intent into reliable, auditable systems. You'll use Snowflake's own product—including Cortex AI and Snowpark—as the development substrate, giving you a front-row seat to how AI strategy becomes real for customers.
Key responsibilities include designing and launching billing infrastructure for AI products (token-based inference, agent workflows, AI-native subscriptions), using AI as a first-class collaborator in development and debugging via Cortex Code CLI, owning reliability through on-call participation and systemic quality improvements, and driving cross-functional initiatives that touch Finance, GTM, Product, and engineering teams across the company.
Required: 5+ years building and supporting large-scale production distributed systems; strong fundamentals in distributed systems (consistency, fault tolerance, idempotency, exactly-once processing, queueing, stream/batch pipelines); strong database and SQL skills; proficiency in Java, Scala, Python, or Go; demonstrated ability to independently design and deliver medium-sized projects; track record of owning reliability and debugging production issues; excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; hands-on experience with AI as a builder's tool.
Bonus: prior billing, payments, metering, revenue, or financial systems experience at SaaS/cloud companies; fraud detection or trust/safety systems experience; pricing model design for AI/ML products; experience building on Snowflake or comparable platforms; contributions to internal AI developer-productivity tooling.
