Forter is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to architect and own the billing systems that power its fraud detection and commerce intelligence platform. The role sits at the financial heartbeat of a system protecting over $500B in annual commerce, handling high-volume data streams across 1 billion+ identities with zero-error-margin precision.
You will design, build, and maintain scalable, resilient systems that translate massive data into financial reality. This is not a maintenance role—you'll own the core engine powering Forter's diverse and expanding product lines, with high autonomy and immediate company-wide impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build scalable systems handling high-volume data while collaborating with teammates and individual contributors
- Lead projects from concept to production, ensuring quality and financial integrity
- Drive data-driven initiatives to improve system performance, efficiency, and billing accuracy
- Partner with Product and Business stakeholders on technical trade-offs affecting the bottom line
- Use AI coding tools (Claude, Copilot, Cursor) as a natural part of development, reviewing and improving AI-generated code
- Foster engineering best practices and excellence
- Build and maintain custom AI agents to orchestrate billing data and handle automated requests
Required qualifications:
- 6+ years developing and maintaining production systems
- Strong backend fundamentals; Python is primary language
- Proven experience owning production systems: monitoring, troubleshooting, performance, reliability
- DevOps proficiency: CI/CD, deployment pipelines, observability, testing
- AWS and large-scale storage experience (MySQL, Snowflake, Redis)
- Strong familiarity with AI coding tools
- AI-first builder mindset, leveraging modern tools to compress execution cycles and ship high-impact features
Nice-to-have:
- NoSQL experience (Elasticsearch)
- Data pipeline frameworks (Airflow, Kafka, Delta Lake)
- Kubernetes or container orchestration
- Billing/ERP systems background
