Salary: USD 244,000 - 305,000 / annual
Datadog's Language Tools team enables approximately 1,500 developers to build, test, and package millions of lines of code across Go, Python, Java, Rust, and TypeScript in a backend monorepo. The team uses Bazel as its foundation and is growing rapidly as additional repositories are absorbed into the monorepo.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own projects from conception through completion, spanning both greenfield and brownfield work. You'll gain direct insight into what Datadog developers need and help shape the team's roadmap.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building simpler, more reliable build, test, and packaging tools
- Optimizing performance and cost efficiency at scale by raising cache hit rates and reducing CI times and compute spend across millions of targets
- Treating CI infrastructure with the same rigor that SREs apply to production systems, ensuring pipelines remain fast and reliable
- Planning and executing complex migrations
- Contributing back to the Bazel open-source ecosystem by upstreaming fixes and influencing features the team depends on
You should be an expert in Bazel and/or one of the supported languages, with a well-rounded engineering background that spans multiple types of software projects. You're both careful and fearless—understanding that the changes you make impact the velocity of hundreds of engineers and require both rigor and boldness. You're user-focused, committed to helping Datadog engineers adopt and improve the tools you develop. Experience with large codebases is ideal.
