Ripple is building infrastructure for global money movement through crypto solutions for financial institutions, businesses, governments, and developers. This Senior Software Engineer role focuses on Banking Connectivity—a mission-critical platform that sits at the boundary between Ripple and the global banking system, responsible for ensuring all data exchanged with external financial institutions is correct, reliable, and continuously available.
You will own and evolve bank integrations that power real-time payment flows and downstream reconciliation. The platform integrates with banking partners through multiple interfaces (APIs, webhooks, polling, file-based flows) and must operate reliably despite real-world constraints: inconsistent data, delayed responses, and partial failures. Your work will focus on scaling integrations while improving system resilience, observability, and structure to support new banking partners, products, and regulatory requirements, while addressing technical debt that impacts reliability and delivery speed.
Key responsibilities include: owning mission-critical bank integrations; developing deep end-to-end understanding of payment and banking data flows across internal systems and external partner banks; designing and delivering testable, resilient, and observable systems that operate under real-world banking constraints; collaborating with product, operations, and external partners to unblock integrations and accelerate delivery; and improving system quality through pragmatic enhancements in observability, testing, and resilience.
Required experience: building and supporting reliable backend systems with external integrations; strong Java expertise including concurrency, failure handling, and edge cases (idempotency, deduplication, delivery guarantees); solid ability to reason about distributed and async flows and backend stacks (AWS, gRPC, RDS, AMQP or similar); self-directed with strong ownership mindset; comfortable using AI-assisted development tools while maintaining quality and safety.
