Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for production systems. This is a hands-on role blending distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development, giving teams a unified interface to understand, debug, and improve service health. You will own quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity on open-ended problems while ensuring strong support throughout delivery. You'll collaborate across product management, design, and analytics during ideation, articulating technical constraints and partnering on decisions that balance risks and trade-offs. You'll proactively identify and lead solutions for project, process, technology, and business issues. Responsibilities include supporting operations and availability of team artifacts through metrics creation and monitoring, escalating issues as needed, and participating in on-call efforts. You'll foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, advocating for them through writing and tech talks, and developing talent on your team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. Required: 4+ years as a software engineer with experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. Experience shipping web apps with declarative UI frameworks (React or Vue) is expected. You should have practical experience with LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations. You'll define technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, extensible designs, write high-quality code easily understood by others, and make significant changes safely in large codebases. Strong ownership of your growth, verbal and written communication skills, and either a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience are required. This remote role is restricted to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
