Optimal Dynamics, a Series C-backed logistics and transportation optimization platform built on four decades of Princeton research, is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join its Platform Engineering team. The company (~70 employees) is backed by top-tier investors including Koch Disruptive Technologies, Bessemer Venture Partners, and others. You'll own the systems, services, and tooling that enable product teams to ship quickly and safely. Your work will span internal tool development, infrastructure, and security—multiplying impact across every engineering team and customer deployment. You'll design and scale core backend infrastructure using Python, Django, AWS, and Terraform, while balancing reliability and velocity as the organization grows. Key responsibilities include: architecting and evolving core infrastructure for reliability, performance, and security; building and improving CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling to optimize productivity; championing security-by-design principles; mentoring engineers and driving alignment on platform strategy; and collaborating with product and engineering leaders to balance speed, cost, and resilience. You'll serve as a technical leader across teams, helping define best practices and raising the overall technical bar. The role embraces the dynamic startup environment—you'll wear multiple hats and contribute wherever needed to fuel growth. Required: 8+ years of hands-on infrastructure and platform engineering experience; proven track record scaling cloud-native systems; strong Python 3 and AWS expertise; familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar), relational databases (Postgres, DynamoDB, MySQL, SQL Server), Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Spacelift, CloudFormation), observability, monitoring, and incident response; hands-on containerization and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS); Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience. This is a full-time, remote-friendly position open to US-based candidates. NYC headquarters available for those preferring in-person collaboration.
