Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering buy-now-pay-later solutions without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Powered by Affirm (PBA) team builds the APIs and solutions that power all of Affirm's integrations with enterprise merchants and partners, managing checkout, merchant onboarding, and custom end-to-end integrated solutions. In this role, you will own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems while ensuring everyone is supported throughout delivery. You'll collaborate with product management, design, and analytics teams during ideation, articulating technical constraints and partnering on decisions that balance risks and trade-offs. You'll proactively identify and advocate for project, process, technology, and business improvements, then lead in solving them. You'll support the operations and availability of your team's systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues when needed, and participating in on-call efforts. You'll foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, advocating for them across the organization through writing and tech talks. You'll develop talent on your team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. You bring 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin. You have a track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. You can define technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs, writing high-quality code that others easily understand and use. You're proficient at making significant changes in large codebases and have developed tools and practices that enable safe, efficient work. You take ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills support effective collaboration with a global engineering team. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience required.
