Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. This role is part of the Card team, working on reinventing credit cards with transparent, flexible terms. You'll work across transaction processing stacks—from just-in-time transaction processing (millisecond-level) to ledgering and reconciliation systems in post-transaction processing. This is challenging, experimental engineering work in payments infrastructure. You will own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems. You'll collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions that balance risks and trade-offs. You'll proactively identify and lead solutions to project, process, technology, and business issues. You'll support operations and availability of your team's systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on-call rotations. You'll foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, advocating for them across the organization through writing and tech talks. You'll develop talent on your team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. Required: 4+ years as a software engineer. Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. Experience shipping frontend applications. Ability to define technical plans for significant features with elegant, simple, extensible designs. Proficiency making large-scale changes safely in large codebases. Strong ownership of your own growth, seeking feedback proactively. Excellent verbal and written communication for global team collaboration. On-call rotation is required. Role is remote but requires Spain-based residency; visa sponsorship available.
