Salary: EUR 86,000 - 122,000 / annual
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering consumers flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Card Acquisition team within the Consumer org plays a critical role in shaping the first experience customers have with Affirm—building trust, clarity, and value from the very first interaction.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for defining long-term technical strategy, mentoring senior engineers, and acting as a force multiplier through your technical depth, operational excellence, and ability to navigate ambiguity. You'll work at the intersection of product, design, and engineering to build polished, performant, and accessible user experiences that directly impact conversion, retention, and business growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring everyone is supported throughout delivery
- Supporting peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics; participating in ideation; articulating technical constraints; and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs
- Proactively identifying project, process, technology, or business issues, advocating for them, and leading in solving them
- Taking ownership of your team's operations and availability by ensuring proper monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting to support on-call efforts
- Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards for your team and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and tech talks
- Developing talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example
- Participating in on-call rotation as a requirement
Required qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
- Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
- Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs; ability to write high-quality code easily understood and used by others
- Proficiency at making significant changes in large codebases and developing tools and practices that enable safe changes
- Demonstrated ownership of growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders
- Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with global engineering teams
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
