Stacklet is a governance-as-code platform that helps organizations optimize cloud costs, improve security, and ensure compliance at scale. Built on Cloud Custodian (a CNCF open-source project), Stacklet serves thousands of global brands managing large cloud estates.
As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will design and build the distributed, event-driven services powering Stacklet's platform. Your work will span the GraphQL API serving the console and customers, policy execution pipelines running across thousands of cloud accounts, and the asset and cost data stores behind them. You'll tackle deeply technical challenges: designing systems that remain correct and observable while handling governance workloads at scale across multiple clouds and regions.
You bring 5+ years of backend service development in Python, with 3+ years leading backend initiatives and mentoring engineers. You have strong expertise in distributed, event-driven systems—understanding failure modes, retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency. You're proficient with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, Alembic), API design (GraphQL), and AWS serverless primitives (Lambda, EventBridge, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, ECS). You have hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Docker, GitHub Actions) and modern testing practices (pytest, moto, containerized local stacks).
You communicate clearly, break down complex problems, propose and compare solutions, and guide teammates through architectural decisions. You're a team player with strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ownership mentality.
Bonus experience includes startup background, Cloud Custodian or policy-as-code tooling, multi-cloud work (Azure, GCP), data-intensive systems (Athena, DuckDB, ETL), platform-level auth (SSO/OIDC/SAML, RBAC), LLM integration, or open-source contributions.
Stacklet offers 100% remote work, company laptop, home office budget, lightweight agile process, equity compensation, excellent health benefits, and generous time off.
