Fanatics Markets is a real-money prediction and trading platform where users can invest in outcomes across sports, entertainment, politics, and beyond. This Senior Software Engineer (Backend) role is a senior individual contributor position with significant ownership over the backend systems that power the customer-facing product.
You'll join a product at an exciting early stage, helping shape its technical evolution as the team builds core features, scales the platform to handle millions of events daily, and refines foundational systems. This is a 0→1 environment where you'll have substantial autonomy and impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable backend services in Go
- Own services and features end-to-end: specification through implementation, instrumentation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
- Design and implement experimentation capabilities (feature flags, A/B tests) to validate product ideas safely
- Model and manage data for markets, orders, and transactions with focus on correctness, integrity, and auditability
- Integrate on-chain and off-chain data sources, building reliable pipelines for blockchain event ingestion
- Collaborate on reliability practices including on-call participation, SLO definition, alerting, and incident response
- Conduct thorough code reviews and establish quality standards
- Leverage AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) to accelerate development velocity while maintaining security and performance standards
- Establish team standards for AI-assisted development, including prompt patterns and validation strategies
- Partner with product and engineering teams to deliver robust, observable, maintainable systems
Required qualifications:
- 4+ years building highly scalable, high-performance backend applications or distributed systems
- Strong PostgreSQL experience: complex query optimization, indexing strategies, schema/migration management
- Event-driven architecture experience (Kafka, PubSub)
- Software design principles (SOLID, DRY) and testing methodologies (unit, integration, end-to-end)
- Backend API design and cross-functional collaboration experience
- CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and safe deployment strategies
- Production reliability practices: monitoring, logging, alerting, SLO concepts
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools to ship production code with specific workflow improvement examples
