Datadog is building the world's leading platform for engineers to understand, scale, and protect their systems, applications, and teams. Operating at massive scale—trillions of data points daily—the company provides always-on alerting, metrics visualization, logs, application tracing, and security insights for tens of thousands of companies globally. In this Senior Backend Engineer role, you'll work on critical infrastructure challenges at scale. Your responsibilities include solving scaling bottlenecks in core services, designing architecture to handle increased traffic, deploying new features to production with progressive rollouts using feature flags, investigating and resolving production issues, and collaborating with your team to prioritize the most impactful projects. You'll bring significant experience in one or more programming languages, with a strong focus on code simplicity and performance. You're capable of designing systems that solve problems at high scale and have a BS/MS/PhD in a scientific field or equivalent professional experience. You're excited about leveraging AI tools to enhance your coding and problem-solving workflows, with demonstrated ability to use AI coding assistants in day-to-day work and to build, validate, and refine AI-generated output. You can design AI backend systems with awareness of quality, cost, and latency tradeoffs. Datadog values pragmatism, honesty, and simplicity in its engineering culture. The company operates as a hybrid workplace, allowing you to create a work-life balance that suits you. You're motivated by working in a fast, high-growth environment that respects both engineers and customers, and ideally you're interested in pushing the boundaries of how AI can improve software engineering practices.
