Bevi is a venture-backed IoT beverage technology company on a mission to transform how beverages are delivered and consumed. Bevi is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its backend platform team in Boston (Charlestown headquarters).
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, optimizing, and maintaining Bevi's backend platform and services using Java and Kotlin. You will facilitate reliable operation, remote management, and scalability of Bevi's fleet of smart water machines while modernizing backend systems at startup velocity. You will collaborate closely with other software engineers on system design and implementation, exercise deep expertise by driving critical feature development, and provide mentorship to junior teammates.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, optimize, and maintain backend platform and services using Java and Kotlin
- Manage backend software deployments to production, maintain service uptime, and monitor service health
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve service and cloud system performance using logs and metrics
- Develop and maintain well-designed, documented APIs to support web and machine user interfaces
- Develop and expand services that process telemetry events from Bevi machines and provide critical data to R&D, support technicians, and fleet managers
- Participate in and guide architectural discussions, technical design direction, and optimization strategies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management and hardware teams to define, design, and ship new features
- Review code and mentor other software engineers in architectural design decisions and technical direction
- Own relationships with cloud providers and third-party services integrated with Bevi's backend infrastructure
- Triage, identify, and resolve complex issues and bugs in backend services
- Actively participate in Agile/Scrum development processes
The ability to be in the office 2+ days per week in Boston headquarters is strongly preferred.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent software development experience
- 5+ years of backend Java/Kotlin development experience (microservice architecture experience is a plus)
- Strong expertise with database design and development in Postgres or similar DBMS (time series databases like Influx or TimescaleDB is a strong plus)
- Experience deploying and maintaining applications on cloud platforms
- Strong expertise in API design (GraphQL experience highly preferred)
- Full-stack development ability in modern frameworks like TypeScript and React is a strong plus
- Proficiency in monitoring, troubleshooting, and improving system performance through logging and metrics
- Experience with unit/integration testing and test-driven development
- Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines
- Ability to analyze complex technical issues, devise innovative solutions, and implement effective strategies
- Deep working knowledge of application development landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Self-starter approach with sense of ownership and ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environment
