Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering consumers flexible buy-now-pay-later options without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Auth Experience team owns customer journeys during authentication, verification, and fraud prevention, building backend orchestration layers that power web and mobile surfaces. In this role, you will own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems while ensuring team support throughout delivery. You'll collaborate closely with product management, design, and analytics teams during ideation, articulating technical constraints and partnering on decisions that balance risks and trade-offs. You will proactively identify and advocate for project, process, technology, and business issues, then lead in solving them. You'll support operations and availability of your team's systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on-call efforts. You'll foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, advocating for them across the organization through writing and tech talks. You'll help develop talent on your team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. The role requires designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin, with a track record of building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. You should have experience working close to web and mobile layers, understanding frontend design patterns such as fraud prevention and backend-for-frontend architectures. You'll define technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs, writing high-quality code that others can easily understand and use. You're proficient at making significant changes in large codebases and have developed tools and practices that enable safe, efficient work. You take ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders, with strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with global engineering teams.
