Torc Robotics, now part of the Daimler family, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to architect and advance the foundational frameworks underpinning its autonomous driving stack for commercial trucks. This is a technical leadership role focused on designing robust, composable architectural patterns for core autonomy components including state management, inter-component communication, abstraction layers, and shared utilities.
You will lead the architecture, design, and evolution of real-time C++ frameworks that enable reliable system-wide data flow, component coordination, error handling, and operational observability. You'll establish scalable architectural patterns that serve as the foundation for safe, performant autonomous operation while driving technical direction and long-term design decisions across the platform.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with Behavior and Perception teams to maintain clean integration boundaries, leading architecture reviews and code reviews to establish engineering standards, and mentoring software engineers through technical coaching and architectural guidance. You'll champion architectural quality through systematic validation, comprehensive testing strategies, and production readiness practices. You'll also contribute to root cause analysis of complex platform-level issues, define simulation and validation frameworks for rigorous testing, and evaluate emerging architectural patterns that strengthen the platform.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of professional software engineering experience (or Master's with 6+ years). Deep expertise with C++17 and recent standards, Python scripting, and experience in autonomous systems, robotics, or distributed systems using pub-sub middleware. Strong background in testing, CI/CD, build systems, and systems-level software design including technical debt management and large codebase refactoring. Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and establishing scalable engineering standards.
Bonus qualifications include robotics middleware experience (ROS 2), distributed systems design expertise, familiarity with safety-critical standards (ISO 26262, SOTIF, ASPICE), GitHub Actions/Jenkins, Bazel build systems, observability/monitoring system design, simulation for regression testing, and data schema versioning at scale.
