VAST Data is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to design and build authentication and authorization services for a large-scale distributed storage platform powering the AI era. You'll work in modern C/C++ on Linux, architecting high-performance systems that make authorization decisions on the critical path of storage requests. The role balances low latency, correctness, and scalability while integrating with external AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting) services.
You'll own features end-to-end—from requirements and design through implementation, testing, rollout, and production support. This is systems engineering work: you'll debug complex production behavior, optimize performance under realistic enterprise workloads, and improve observability and reliability. You'll work directly on problems encountered by enterprise customers and AI infrastructure deployments, solving issues that only emerge at scale.
Key responsibilities include designing access control APIs, integrating external AAA protocols, implementing caching strategies, and maintaining high engineering standards for code quality and testing. You'll own significant areas of the codebase and drive their technical direction, turning ambiguous requirements into production-ready solutions. Strong debugging and performance analysis skills are essential, as is comfort working close to OS, storage, and networking boundaries.
