Tilled is a rapidly growing Payfac-as-a-Service platform empowering software companies to seamlessly embed payment processing. The company is at the forefront of software-led payments disruption, supporting major names in the payments space as traditional payment entities see their legacy models become obsolete.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work directly with the Director of Engineering with broad end-to-end responsibilities across the entire stack. Your work will have significant impact on every aspect of Tilled's business success.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Creating, developing, deploying, and maintaining Tilled services
- Designing and implementing highly reliable, fault-tolerant systems
- Collecting and visualizing detailed telemetry data to continuously improve systems
- Advancing and adhering to high-quality coding practices including unit testing and pair programming
- Taking end-to-end responsibility for services you create, continuously monitoring and improving them
- Promoting an engineering team culture that is learning-focused, motivated, and collaborative
- Working with a variety of technologies including TypeScript, Angular, Node.js, and Postgres
The role requires flexibility to work between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday-Friday, US time zone. You must be authorized to work in the United States.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years building and owning production software systems
- Deep experience with TypeScript and Node.js, or a comparable modern backend stack
- Strong command of relational databases, particularly Postgres (schema design, indexing, query performance tuning)
- Track record of good judgment under ambiguity in fast-moving, high-growth environments
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently in a distributed team without needing imposed structure
- Genuine interest in raising the bar for the team around you, not just your own output
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Angular
- Startup experience, particularly at a stage where you wore multiple hats
- Experience with AWS
- Experience building or integrating payment systems (Stripe, Braintree, or similar)
- History of taking production systems and materially improving their performance, quality, or reliability
