Salary: USD 180,000 - 192,075 / annual
Taskrabbit is a marketplace platform connecting people with Taskers for everyday home services like furniture assembly, handyman work, and moving help. The company is owned by IKEA and operates across the US and EU with a distributed, hybrid workforce.
You'll join the Post-Booking team as a Senior Software Engineer, responsible for shaping the consumer experience after the initial booking. This is a high-impact individual contributor role with significant technical leadership responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:
• Architect the multi-quarter technical roadmap for Post-Booking domains (backend, frontend, APIs, data models) in partnership with the engineering manager and architects, addressing tech debt and evolving scalable system architecture.
• Lead complex, cross-team technical initiatives and translate ambiguous, high-stakes business goals into clear technical strategies, designs, and experiments.
• Serve as a JavaScript subject-matter expert, championing high-quality testing practices, mentoring engineers, and producing durable technical documentation.
• Drive adoption of Spec-Driven Development (SDD) using advanced AI tools, ensuring engineers consistently deliver robust, scalable Node.js implementations with comprehensive test suites.
• Build new features to improve customer experience through high-performance Node.js services and AI-driven enhancements, plus critical replatforming work to modernize microservice infrastructure.
Required qualifications:
• 4+ years professional software engineering with a mix of frontend and backend experience, demonstrating impact by leading complex domains and influencing multiple teams.
• Extensive professional experience with Node.js and microservice architecture; Ruby on Rails experience is a plus.
• Strong SQL and data modeling expertise for financial use cases (Postgres, Snowflake).
• Hands-on experience with async/event-driven systems (Kafka) and microservice architecture.
• Proven track record designing and owning observability/alerting for critical systems.
• Mastery in building, debugging, and scaling distributed systems.
• Excellent communication, ability to influence without authority, and strong ownership mentality for systems handling money and trust.
Bonus experience: Spec-Driven Development, hands-on AI tools, rebuilding legacy systems, microservice and event-driven architectures at scale.
The role is hybrid, requiring 2 days in office at the San Francisco hub (130 Sutter St) every Tuesday and Wednesday. Visa sponsorship is not available; candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US.
