Salary: USD 130,000 - 180,000 / annual
Taskrabbit is a marketplace platform connecting people with Taskers for everyday home services—furniture assembly, handyman work, moving help, and more. The company is owned by IKEA and operates across the US and EU with a hybrid workforce.
You'll join the Tasker & Supply team as a Senior Software Engineer, reporting to an engineering manager. This is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on raising quality across the marketplace's supply-side systems.
Key focus areas:
- Architect the multi-quarter technical roadmap for tasker onboarding, category/skill eligibility, geography, and marketplace matching
- Lead complex cross-team initiatives around marketplace liquidity and supply-demand matching
- Transform ambiguous business goals into clear technical strategies and experiments
- Improve reliability and observability (Datadog, Kafka) for onboarding, matching, and supply systems; own production debugging and systemic fixes
- Champion Ruby/Sorbet expertise, mentor engineers, and drive adoption of Spec-Driven Development with AI tools
- Lead migration of service contracts toward strongly-typed TypeScript bindings
You'll work primarily with Ruby on Rails and Sorbet, with exposure to TypeScript, MySQL, Kafka, and event-driven architecture. The role requires 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of leading complex work and influencing multiple teams across boundaries.
Bonus experience: Spec-Driven Development, AI tools, legacy monolith replatforming, and typed-backend-to-TypeScript migrations.
The role is hybrid, requiring 2 days in office (Tuesdays & Wednesdays) at the San Francisco hub (130 Sutter St). Visa sponsorship is not available; candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US.
