Salary: USD 109,500 - 150,550 / annual

You will join the Student Activities team, which owns the applications used daily by students, teachers, and school administrators. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own features end-to-end across the full stack and help set the technical direction for products that serve millions of K-12 students monthly.
Key responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and develop features end-to-end from React/TypeScript frontend to PostgreSQL backend, APIs, infrastructure, and data pipelines
- Design data models and schemas that keep systems correct, performant, and maintainable at scale
- Build and maintain highly available web and backend systems serving millions of users and thousands of requests per second
- Adopt AI tooling to accelerate your work and improve how the team builds, ships, and maintains software
- Maintain and evolve backend services like curricula-api and progress services that power student practice and reporting
- Mentor and support other engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion strong engineering practices
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers in a distributed remote environment
- Participate in on-call rotation to ensure prompt resolution of customer-facing incidents
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience shipping high-quality web-based software for large user bases
- Strong full-stack proficiency: hands-on experience with React (or comparable SPA framework) and TypeScript on frontend; backend services and API development
- Solid data modeling skills and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Experience conducting code reviews and mentoring other engineers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to thrive in agile, multidisciplinary teams
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience with event-based/event-driven architecture
- Experience with AWS infrastructure (ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3/CloudFront, Elasticache, Lambda) and Docker
- Experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and observability/telemetry tooling (Datadog, Bugsnag, or similar)
- Passion for education and improving outcomes for students and teachers
