Peregrine Technologies is an AI-enabled platform backed by leading Silicon Valley investors that helps public safety organizations, state and local governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions address societal challenges with unprecedented speed and accuracy. The platform transforms siloed and disconnected data into operational intelligence, surfacing mission-critical information to empower faster, better decisions. Peregrine currently supports hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, serving more than 125 million people. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will join the core engineering team and take on vast ownership across the technology stack, making decisions with outsized impact. You'll work cross-functionally with design and product management to build robust, scalable, and user-centered systems. Key responsibilities include designing scalable permission systems to manage access to terabytes of data across thousands of organizations, building intuitive controls for data sharing governance, architecting frameworks for secure cross-organizational collaboration while maintaining data sovereignty and compliance, and creating advanced sharing mechanisms that balance openness with security. The engineering team values empathy, ownership, and collaboration. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with the team onsite to understand the variety of use cases Peregrine serves, collaborate directly with the deployment team and users, and take full responsibility for major features from conception to completion. The technical stack includes Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, and Kafka on the backend; React, Redux, and Mapbox on the frontend; PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch for data storage; machine learning models hosted in Bedrock and Sagemaker; and AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, and Kubernetes for infrastructure. Required qualifications: 4+ years of experience working with cross-functional software development teams, degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience), demonstrated ability to ship and iterate on production-grade software components, strong understanding of architecting and scaling distributed systems, solid grasp of modern software development best practices, and comfort navigating large codebases. Must be located in NYC and open to working in office.
