Join GoGuardian's Pear Deck Learning team as a Senior Software Engineer. Pear Deck Learning is an all-in-one platform serving hundreds of thousands of teachers and students, comprising Pear Start (lesson planning), Pear Deck (interactive presentations with real-time feedback), Pear Practice (differentiated gamified practice), and Pear Assessment (assessments and reporting). You'll design and build features across the full stack, from presenter and student experiences to platform services. On the backend, you'll develop high-performance services in Node.js (Express) and Go (gRPC microservices) powering real-time classroom workflows including live sessions, presence tracking, leaderboards, and streaming responses. Frontend work involves building data-rich, accessible experiences with React 18 and TypeScript, leveraging component systems like Chakra UI, state management with Redux Toolkit and React Query, and form validation with react-hook-form and Zod. You'll design REST and gRPC APIs for real-time data and service-to-service communication in a service-oriented architecture. The role spans a polyglot data layer including MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis/Redis Cluster, Elasticsearch, Kafka, SQS/SNS, and Pub/Sub. You'll build real-time infrastructure using WebSockets, server-sent events, and Firebase Realtime Database. Integration work includes LLM/AI services (OpenAI, Google Gemini) for content generation and moderation, plus integrations with Google Slides/Classroom/Drive, Microsoft Teams/Office, LTI, and SIS rostering systems. You'll write maintainable, well-tested code with strong typing, contribute to test suites (Vitest, Jest, Go testing), and help modernize legacy surfaces by migrating to React 18, Vite, and TypeScript 5. Infrastructure work involves AWS (ECS, Aurora, S3, SQS, CloudFront) and GCP (GKE/Kubernetes, Cloud Build, Firebase) using Docker, Terraform, and Helm. You'll monitor performance and reliability with Datadog, OpenTelemetry, and Prometheus/Grafana, participate in on-call rotation, mentor engineers, and engage in architecture discussions and code review. This position is based in India and works closely with US-based product and engineering teams. Strong written communication and comfort with partial time-zone overlap are essential.
