New Relic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build next-generation Database Observability products. In this high-impact role, you will own the entire lifecycle of critical data flows—from developing lightweight database agents and high-throughput ingestion pipelines to building intelligent database recommendation engines and autonomous AI agents.
You will architect and scale high-throughput, low-latency ingestion pipelines and backend services for database metrics, slow query logs, execution plans, and telemetry. You'll develop performant, lightweight agents and collectors to safely extract telemetry from diverse relational and NoSQL engines under high load. Your work will include designing intelligent engines that automatically detect slow queries, index fragmentation, schema anti-patterns, and resource exhaustion, delivering actionable optimization recommendations.
A key focus is building state-of-the-art AI agents leveraging Agentic AI, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and LLMs to perform automated root-cause analysis, natural-language database querying, and autonomous incident investigation. You will write robust backend services and APIs (REST/GraphQL), collaborate across the stack to connect complex AI diagnostics into intuitive React/TypeScript workflows, and design event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka for real-time telemetry.
You'll own your code from commit to production in a DevOps model, leveraging AI-assisted coding tools for spec-driven design and rapid prototyping. You will conduct code reviews, write comprehensive tests, and optimize applications for performance, scalability, and reliability.
Required: 5+ years building production-grade software; mastery of Go, Java, or Python with deep understanding of concurrency and distributed systems; hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL datastores (Redis, MongoDB, Cassandra); proven track record designing high-throughput, fault-tolerant backend architectures and APIs; rigorous approach to testing and observability.
Bonus: Kafka experience, OpenTelemetry familiarity, GraphQL, database query optimizer experience, Docker/Kubernetes, AI coding tools, open-source contributions, asynchronous programming expertise.
