Hummingbird is a Series B SaaS company helping financial institutions and fintech companies orchestrate compliance and fight financial crime. The company is remote-first and fully distributed, founded in 2017, with customers including Stripe, Affirm, and Evolve Bank.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Cortex Team, you'll drive AI product development at Hummingbird. You'll design and deliver customer-facing AI features that make complex compliance work more intuitive and efficient, including work on the context-aware AI Assistant and Review Agent. You'll collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other engineers from prototyping through production, balancing thoughtful model and tool selection with sound engineering principles to ensure systems are scalable, secure, and auditable.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building AI features end-to-end with strong focus on measurement, observability, and real-world performance
- Architecting and delivering systems that handle high data volumes and complex workflows with reliability and speed
- Improving grounding quality through permission-safe retrieval, citations, and evaluations to make AI outputs auditable
- Driving latency and cost optimizations to create fast, seamless user interactions
- Collaborating with Product and Design to define AI capabilities and shape product strategy
You should have shipped 0-1 products to real users (ideally AI products), strong backend experience, data fluency, and operational maturity. Deep care for quality, testing, and security is essential. Experience with vector databases (OpenSearch), Snowflake, evaluation frameworks (Langfuse), or fintech/compliance domains is a plus.
